Description

The U.S. Department of Agriculture intends to procure a particle size measurement instrument (or combination of instruments). The instrument (or combination of instruments) shall include but not limited to: provide size information on particles from 0.1um to 1000 um in diameter, use both laser diffraction and X-ray techniques with ranges that are at least partially overlapping, produce data acceptable for USGS national database in the range of 0.1 to 300 um, utilize Stokesian settling theory to define sedimentation diameter of particles, use a charge-coupled device to provide high resolution laser diffraction readings, finely collimated x-ray beam, automatic bubble detection and elimination system, use a built in ultrasonic probe for the dispersion of samples, use an autosampler to speed the processing of sample batches, and use an auto detect mode to facilitate use by untrained operators. The system shall be installed/delivered FOB to the USDA, ARS, National Sedimentation Laboratory, Oxford, Mississippi. An IFB with complete specification requirements will be issued on or about July 19, 2004. These dates are tentative and will be specified in the IFB package.
