- Description
- The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) is conducting a Market Investigation (MI) to identify non-developmental, commercially available Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) and network hub equipment for satellite communications (Ku band). This notice does not constitute a request for proposal (RFP), but a request for information only. A future synopsis will be published regarding Acquisition strategy. Industry comments are solicited concerning the availability of transit case configured Ku-band transmit/receive VSAT terminals with integral modems supporting Internet Protocol (IP) satellite transport. The VSAT antenna size shall not exceed 1.2 meters in diameter. The antenna, transmit power amplifier, modem, and hub equipment shall support inbound (VSAT to Hub) data rates of at least 512 kbps. VSAT terminals shall be configured so that no individual transit case exceeds 100 pounds in order to comply with airline industry requirements for ?checked baggage?. The total VSAT terminal package, when configured for transit, should be in no more than three transit cases. VSAT terminals shall be equipped with an automatic satellite acquisition function and automatic tracking and polarization. In addition to shared resource IP-based communications such as hub-spoke Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) protocols, the integral modem shall provide a bypass mode supporting Single Channel Per Carrier (SCPC) functionality. Hub equipment shall be capable of supporting a network of up to 100 deployed VSAT terminals. Hub equipment shall be packaged in a single transit case and comply with requirements for 2-man lift (less than or equal to 174 pounds).
