Description
NAICS Code: 54199 The National Risk Management Research Laboratory Technology Transfer Support Division (NRMRL/TTSD) of the Office of Research and Development (ORD) at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) seeks a student or recent graduate to provide services under a contractual agreement in support of the Agency's Pathogen Equivalency Committee, under the authority of 43 US Code Section 5d. The student should have completed at least 2 or more years of college working towards a degree in Microbiology or Environmental Science with emphasis in Microbiology. The successful candidate will work primarily with the USEPA's Pathogen Equivalency Committee (PEC) Chairperson. The PEC makes recommendations to EPA and State management on the effectiveness of new wastewater treatment plant sludge disinfection processes. The student will assist with management of the new disinfection process applications. The work is to begin approximately September 1, 2004 for a 12-month period, with an option to extend the period of performance for another 12 months. The duty station is Cincinnati, OH. The position will be 8 hours per day for a 40-hour week during off-school months, and part-time during the school months. Occasionally it may be necessary to travel to a wastewater treatment plant or microbiological laboratory, or to assist with some microbiological analyses. Successful candidates must undergo a background and fingerprint check. The student shall have completed two or more years of college, but applications will be considered from students who hold up to a Masters degree (graduated within the past 2 years). It would be helpful to have experience with or knowledge of public health concerns with wastewater treatment processes and sewage sludge processing. Students should have experience with doing literature searches either in the library or on the internet. Word processing skills will also be helpful, as will working with teams. Compensation will be commensurate with the level of education and experience. The anticipated hourly-rate will range between $12.76/hr for students with 2 or more years of college and $21.63/hr for students with a Master's. Non-U.S. citizens may be eligible to participate, depending on their immigration status and the applicable regulations of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). Interested individuals may submit a request for the Job Announcement for Student Services Contract to the attention of Cathy Jo Basu, using the following methods:(1) In writing to the above address; (2) by fax (513)487-2109; or (3) by e-mail ( basu.cathy@epa.gov ) to Cathy Basu, referencing Solicitation No. RFQ-OH-04-00110. Requests must be received no later than July 14, 2004. Simplified acquisition procedures apply, on a competitive basis.
