Description
The Program Support Center (PSC) has a requirement for the Office on Womens Health (OWH) to modify Contract Number 233-03-0037 to add additional tasks. The subject contract was awarded to Dr. Mary Lou Rife, Ph.D., 2948 North Hampton Street, NW, Washington, DC 20015 to prepare a BodyWorks ToolKit prototype for use by parents and other adults as a means to prevent overweight and obesity in adolescents with a focus on girls through a family oriented approach; develop a Train the Trainer manual, develop a distribution strategy for the ToolKit; conduct training sessions; and develop an outline for a video script and scenarios. The new tasks shall be accomplished in 6 months from date of award. Specifically, the contractor shall develop a system to track information on all recipients of the ToolKit for future evaluation purposes and input information as it is received from the OWH regional offices and other organizations who will distribute the kits; develop a 20 minute video targeting the entire family that will support the key messages of BodyWorks; develop a pilot site project that will distribute the kits to alternative sites in addition to OWH selected points of distribution, i.e. worksites, schools/PTAs and community/faith based organizations that may target African Americans; identify effective evaluation strategies for BodyWorks; and develop community action kits for girls that will complement BodyWorks and target behavior as well as environmental change by encouraging girls to be proactive at home, school and in the community to increase the potential for healthy weight. This requirement has been justified and approved in accordance with FAR 6.302-1 - Only One Responsible Source and No Other Supplies or Services will Satisfy Agency Requirements. Dr. Rife has participated in the BodyWorks project since it inception. She is uniquely qualified due to her past experience in developing the Eating Disorder Initiative Campaign for the OWH which included the development and facilitation of the overweight and obesity focus groups and development of the prototype toolkit. Reference Numbered Note 22.
