- Description
- The US Department of Agriculture in Wenatchee, WA has a need for a scanning electron microscope SEM for analyzing biological material both under high vacuum as well as in its semi-native state; i.e., low vacuum, without the need for desiccation or sputter-coating. Samples will generally be vegetative or reproductive tissue from deciduous fruit trees, or related to physiology and/or pathology (bacteria, fungi, etc.) thereof. Detectors Secondary Electron (SE) * Everhart-Thornley. Continuously Retractable Backscattered Electron (BSE) * annular single-crystal. Picoammeter * For specimen current/probe current measurements. Environmental (low vacuum) Secondary Electron Detector TV camera (with Infrared illuminator) Electronic Optics Electron Optical Column with electromagnetic lenses Electron Gun Tungsten hairpin, thermionic cathode Accelerating Voltage 500V to 30kV, variable in 100V steps Resolution 3.5nm, 30kV, 4mm WD Magnification ~5x to 500,000x Probe Current 1pA to 2@A Auto or Manual Alignment of Electron Beam Staging/Chamber Internal Chamber Diameter ~200mm Door Width 150mm Motorized Compucentric Stage Stage X movement 60mm * motorized, software-controlled Stage Y movement 80mm * motorized, software-controlled Stage Z movement 60mm * motorized, software-controlled Stage z' movement ~6mm * motorized, software-controlled Rotation 360?@continuous * motorized, software-controlled Eucentric Tilt -70?@to +70?@motorized, software-controlled (Tilt axis should be in perpendicular plane to BSE) Vacuum Functions Turbomolecular pump + Rotary vane pump Vacuum gauges -- Pirani or Penning vacuum gauges Working vacuum Hi Vacuum Mode: 5 x 10-3 Pa Medium Vacuum Mode: 5-150 Pa Low Vacuum Mode: 5-500 Pa (2000 Pa Optional) Microscope Control Computer OS Platforms MS XP*@Pro SEM Control Interface Fully software controlled via graphical user interface, mouse, and/or trackball SEM Remote Control/Remote Diagnostics via TCP/IP Local Diagnostics and Logging Self test and SEM usage and activity. Automated Operations Vacuum control Filament heating Gun alignment Bias Compensation for kV changes Probe current optimized for spot size Spot size optimized for magnification Scanning speed (optimized for S/N ratio) Contrast and Brightness Focus and Stigmation Lookup Table SEM Security User Accounts can be setup for multi-user laboratories; password protected Only one supervisor account is allowed. Graphical User Interface Image Measurements and Analysis Image Archiving and Printing Post-Imaging Operations Multi-Image Operations (Mixing two or more images) Upgradeability Capable of accepting a peltier-based cooling/heating stage (made for) with all detectors installed and functional. Sufficient chamber ports for addition of EDX, EDS and cathodoluminesense detectors. STEM detector capabilities for DF/DF Interested firms can obtain a RFQ package by fax or mail to the attention of Fred Gifford as listed in the notice.
