Description
NORTHWEST REGION, WASHINGTON - The development team of American Eagle Communities, LLC, has been selected by the Department of the Navy (DoN) to participate in exclusive negotiations for an important public/private venture that will provide affordable and quality housing for Navy and Marine Corps families in the state of Washington. The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1996, Section 2801, provides a series of powerful authorities that allows the DoN and other military services to enter into long-term agreements with private industry to design, finance, construct, own, operate, maintain, and professionally manage public/private housing ventures. The American Eagle Communities, LLC team was selected on May 26. The Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Southwest Division, San Diego, is managing the exclusive negotiations for this project in partnership with Commander, Navy Region Northwest. The project will include the privatization of 3,098 existing units of DoN-owned family housing, including related improvements and land for the construction of new units. The initial development scope will include the demolition, replacement, and renovation of existing units and support facilities located in the state of Washington. These include Submarine Base, Bangor; Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Keyport; Naval Magazine, Indian Island; Naval Station, Bremerton; Magnolia (Quarters A); Brier; Naval Radio Station, Jim Creek; and Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island. Also included in the project is the potential divestiture of properties no longer viable for continued Navy use. These properties, which consist of the land and facilities at Olalla, Kingston, Bainbridge Island, and Fort Lawton, may be marketed and sold to facilitate and extend repair work and recapitalization of homes for the Northwest military families. Construction is expected to commence in late 2004 after Congressional notification and execution of the project partnership documents. For information regarding this project, please contact Lisa Young at (619) 532-1181 or Todd Czarnecki at (619) 532-2231 of the Southwest Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command. If you have questions for the American Eagle Communities, LLC, team, please contact Kathryn Thompson at (972) 272-3676.
