Description
Full time professional services are requested as Coordinator for the Eurasia Area Studies Program. The mission of the Area Studies Division is to provide members of the foreign affairs community with the essential knowledge of the country or region on which they work in order that they may advance the foreign policy objectives of the United States. The program is located in the George P. Shultz National Foreign Affairs Training Center/Foreign Service Institute, 4000 Arlington Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22204. Area Studies provides instruction on history, politics, economics, culture, society, religion, security issues, and U.S. policy interests regarding all of the world?s regions. The concentration is on those issues most relevant to a foreign affairs professional working in or dealing with a specific region. Area Studies courses are organized and conducted by individual Course Coordinators who also bring in area experts from universities, government, and private organizations. The seminars combine lectures, discussions, participatory activities by class members, readings, and audio-visual materials in order to highlight the key historical, political, economic, and socio-cultural themes for the region as well as U.S. interests and policy issues. Scheduled courses range from two-week regional seminars, which are held several times a year depending on region to once-a-week advanced area studies primarily for students in language training. In addition, the Area Studies division offers some individual consultation and customized tutorials. The Eurasia regional Coordinator will have administrative responsibilities for and teaching responsibilities in the Eurasian Area Studies program. The Eurasian program encompasses Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Central Asia, and the Caucasus.
