Description
DARPA will host an ODAM Proposers Day Workshop on Monday, June 21, 2004 to promote discussion of the OPTICALLY DESIGNATED ATTACK MUNITIONS (ODAM) Program. ODAM is a technology development and integration program to demonstrate a low cost optical seeker for converting a 60mm mortar into a precision guided munitions system. These systems will improve U.S. effectiveness in providing small, operational units with cost- effective organic precision indirect fires capable of operating across the full gamut of environments including grassland, desert, arctic, and urban. DARPA believes that the desired performance and cost characteristics can be achieved by the combination of innovative design and integration of ex-isting and developmental technologies, resulting in a guidance package fuze system that is "plug compatible" with existing munitions. The goals of this meeting are threefold: 1) To familiarize participants with DARPA's interest in cutting edge mortar guidance technologies; 2) to identify potential offerors and promote understanding of the RFP; and 3) to promote discussion of synergistic capabilities among potential program participants. Attendees are encouraged to explore strong teaming and business re-lationships, as applicable, in order to develop competitive responses to a forthcoming DARPA ODAM RFP, anticipated to be released in Final Form on or about 21 JUN 04. Examples of technologies of interest include but are not limited to the following: LED alterna-tives to laser designators, uncooled phtotodetector technology (daytime and nighttime alterna-tives), design alternatives for compact optics, etc. Only those designs meeting minimum stan-dards, as set forth in the Request For Proposal (RFP), will be considered. These minimums in-clude but are not limited to: 4 meter CEP static; daytime and nighttime operation; contact fuze, 100-meter steering range; production cost (lot size 30,000 units) of less than $500; and a pro-gram schedule not to exceed 30 months. The ultimate goal of the program is deployment of the guidance package fuze system mortar with US troops as a retrofit to the existing 60-mm mortar ammunition. The program will be divided into three phases including Preliminary Design, Comprehensive Design and Test, and System Test and Evaluation. The Proposers Day Workshop will be held at the Executive Conference Center, 3601 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22201. An $80.00 registration fee is required to cover the cost of the meeting. Registration is required by 16 June. Attendance will be limited to the first 80 registrants. Each organization may send up to three representatives. DARPA will not provide cost reimbursement for attendance. Proposers Day will be unclassified and open to all potential bidders. Attendance is not required to propose to any potential RFP or research solicitation on this topic. Registration for the Proposers Day begins at 8:00 AM, followed by the Morning Session at 9:00 AM. This session will include the introduction of the DARPA ODAM Program along with the Invited Presentations addressing state-of-the-art mortar technologies, and non-imaging optics capabilities. The Afternoon Session will begin at approximately 1:00 PM continuing with Invited Presentations, followed by interactive teaming discussions ending NLT 4:30 PM. Breakfast, morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack will be included. Note: This is an informal meeting - business casual (no ties) is acceptable. REGISTRATION INFORMATION: If interested in attending the workshop please send an email, with the Subject line "ODAM Proposers Day Request for Information" to ODAM-RFP@darpa.mil. In reply to your email, you will receive an information packet detailing the registration process and logistics of the workshop. Foreign nationals should complete and return a DARPA Foreign National Visitor Request (DARPA Form 60) no later than 14 June 2004 if they wish to attend the conference. Please declare your citizenship on the registration form. The DARPA Form 60 will be sent to you based on declaration of citizenship. This initiative may be subject to U.S. Export Controls (International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)) and National Security regulations. All performers must meet the requirements for participation set by those regulations. ORGANIZATION PRESENTATIONS: Invited speakers are hereby solicited from each organi-zation or affiliation. If interested in presenting, indicate your desire to present in your ini-tial registration email. You will be required to submit an abstract of your presentation via email to Christine Bonsby at ODAM-RFP@darpa.mil by 16 June 2004. There will be no exceptions. All materials submitted for presentation at the ODAM Proposers Day Workshop must be approved in advance by both the organization that funded the research and the DARPA program manager. The DARPA program manager will screen the material for sensitive, but unclassified material. For this reason, any material you wish to present at the workshop must be received no later than 16 June 2004 (COB) in order to receive consideration. It is the presenters responsibity to ensure that the material has been approved for public release by the organization that funded the research. Written confirmation of this approval is required by COB, 16 June 2004. All inquiries should be sent to Christine Bonsby at ODAM-RFP@darpa.mil.
