Description
The Small Caliber Ammunition Team of the Small and Medium Caliber Ammunition Systems has a requirement for the production of Caliber .50 M858 Ball and M860 Trace Plastic training cartridges. These cartridges are intended for use in training areas where range restrictions preclude the use of full range standard service ammunition. They should provide the ability to increase the frequency of training and hence the proficiency of the user by affording training areas previously closed by range restrictions. The designed cartridges will be used in the Caliber.50 M2 Machine Gun with an M3 Recoil Adapter. The maximum safety range is 700 meters and the effective training range is 150 meters. The Tracer cartridge should exhibit a visible trace up to 150 meters. An initial quantity of 610,000 rounds will be required from the Contractor for the first period of performance with an approximate additional quantity of 1,000,000 rounds over the course of the next two (2) option periods. Delivery of the 1,010,000 rounds is expected 240 calendar days after contract award. Delivery of the options is expected 180 calendars days after award of each option. The contract award(s) will be a firm fixed price production contract using full and open competition based on the Best Value to the Government. The Government will accept proposals from pre-qualified sources. In order to be eligible for award, a design must be qualified prior to contract award (see FAR 9.206-1(c)). In order to be qualified, each design must undergo an extensive battery of tests as specified in the Government Performance pecification for the M858. Contractors interested in qualifying their design shall be fully responsible for all coordination and costs associated with the qualification tests.
