- The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) intends to negotiate on a non-competitive basis with the Women's Health Initiative Field Centers (Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Univ. of Minnesota, Univ. of Iowa, Univ. of Alabama, Wake Forest Univ. Sch. of Med., Northwestern Univ., Brigham & Women's Hosp., Univ. of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Emory Univ., Univ. of Pittsburgh, Univ. of California, Davis, Univ. of Arizona, Univ. of Tennessee, Memorial Hosp. of Rhode Island, Res. Fdn. of the State Univ. of New York at Buffalo, Univ. of California, Irvine, George Washington Univ., Stanford Univ., Baylor Coll. of Med., Univ. of Texas Health Science Ctr., San Antonio, Ohio State Univ. Res. Fdn., Univ. of Nevada, Kaiser Fdn. Res. Inst., Portland, State Univ. of New York, Stony Brook, Univ. of Massachusetts, Univ. of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Wayne State Univ. Sch. of Med., Albert Einstein Coll. of Medicine, Harbor-UCLA Res. & Education Inst., Kaiser Fdn. Res. Inst., Oakland, Med. Coll. of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, MedStar Res. Inst., Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Med. Ctr., UCLA, Univ. of Cincinnati, Univ. of Florida, Univ. of Hawaii, Univ. of Miami and Univ. of Wisconsin, Madison) for an extension to the WHI study. Since the initiation of WHI in 1992, a total of 161,809 participants have been recruited, examined and followed in four clinical trials and a companion observational study which focused on evaluating overall risks and benefits of preventive interventions for the major causes of morbidity and mortality among post-menopausal women in the United States. The primary goal of the study is to continue outcomes ascertainment in the WHI Clinical Trial and Observational Study participants and mammography in the Hormone Therapy (HT) trial participants. The statutory authority applicable to this solicitation is 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) as set forth in FAR 6.302.1. The incumbents have the unique capability to provide the required services to the NHLBI.
