Description
The purpose of this Sources Sought/Market Survey is to identify production sources for the Marine Signal, Smoke and Illumination, MK 124 MOD 0, NSN 1370-01-030-8330 and NSN: 1370-01-144-3561. This item is utilized by all branches of the service to identify personnel locations at night and during the day; commonly used during rescue and recovery operations. Personnel carry the signal in life vests and flight suit pockets. It can also be located in life raft survival kits. The signal is a hand held device and consists of an aluminum case approximately 5.375 inches long, 1.625 inches in diameter, and 8 oz. in weight with a protective rubber cap on each end. The case has two raised beads on the flar e end (for tactile identification) and a label on the outer surface visually listing the flare/smoke ends and operating instructions. The case contains four subassemblies: flare igniter, smoke igniter, flare candle, and smoke candle. The igniters, (located on each end of the signal, one for the flare candle and one for the smoke candle), are one-hand operable, and consists of an arming lever, a spring mechanism and a striker pin. The arming lever is extended and cocked. When released t he spring transfer the lever??????s energy to the striker that impacts a primer and ignites the pyrotechnic. The flare display is red and the smoke signal display is orange; the display burns approximately 20 seconds and 16 seconds respectively. The harsh environment and life saving role of this signal dictate strict adherence to specifications to ensure reliable operation. This item contains magnesium and oxidizers that are susceptible to ignition from static electricity. Potential manufacturers of these components should be experienced in the handling and processing of said materials. Technical data and drawings are available upon request. Interested parties must be registered with the U.S./ Canada Joint Certification Office to obtain a copy of the Technical Data Package (see www.dlis.dla.mil/jcp/ for instructions and information). Afte r receipt of required certification, request a copy of the TDP via email from julie.coughlin@us.army.mil. Request must include: cage code, company name, address, phone number, e-mail address, and point of contact.
