Description
The Bureau of Engraving & Printing (BEP) is looking to replace its existing packaging equipment and is seeking film that will meet the requirements for packaging cash-paks of currency notes that is also compatible with commercially available packaging equipment. The film should offer performance enhancements over the current cash-pak film being used, e.g., thinner, stronger, improved sealability, and meet all the requirements of the attached BEP Specification F: SW-5 dated March 19, 2003. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the compatibility of the cash-pak film to the brick film which is currently comprised of PVC. The current film has a thickness of 0.010 inches. Samples of our current production material are available upon request. Interested parties who want to participate in this effort should submit a technical description of their film, a copy of the Material Safety Data Sheet, along with a roll sample 100 feet long by 40 inches wide and at no cost to the BEP. Samples should be sent to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Attn: Office of Technical Support, James Mountjoy, 14th & C Sts., S.W., Washington, D.C. 20228. Additionally, all interested parties should submit a technical data sheet containing at minimum the following properties for their material: Impact Resistance ASTM D 1709, Tensile Strength ASTM D 638, Elongation ASTM D 638, Tear Propagation ASTM D 1922, Abrasion ASTM D 4157, Seal Initiation and Strength ASTM F 88, Hot Tack ASTM F 1921-98, and Shrinkability (in both the machine and the transverse directions). If you have any questions, please contact Sherese Lewis by E-mail at Sherese.Lewis@bep.treas.gov or call her on (202) 874-2642.
