Description

The project includes the straightening of the channel from the downstream end of the existing Paseo Channel Project, through Woodland Avenue and tying into the water control structure built for the Woodland Avenue Emergency Repair Project. (The City of Kansas City, Missouri executed the emergency repair in 1999.) The Woodland reach is approximately 700 feet in length and includes one dam/drop structure. The new work will tie into the existing upstream reach construction. Some retaining walls and slope paving will require removal to allow for realignment of the ch annel. The project consists of lowering the channel bottom approximately three feet on average from the termination of the Paseo Channel Project, through a drop structure near station 140+00, and until tying into the invert established by the emergency repair of 1999. Excavation will mainly be in Bethany Falls Limestone through the reach in the channel, and overburden on the side slopes. A significant amount of overburden in the Woodland reach was removed during the Paseo Project. The channel walls will be struc tural reinforced concrete walls. Where the rock does not project high enough, structural walls will be constructed to facilitate grading along the channel. A dam (referred to as the Woodland Dam) will be located about 500 feet upstream of the former Woodland Avenue Bridge, with a crest el evation of 784 msl. A drop structure will be constructed downstream of the dam which will lower the channel elevation 6 feet over a 200 foot length of channel. Downstream of the Woodland Dam and drop structure, the channel will transition back into the exi sting channel with some modifications at a water control structure near Station 145+00. The estimated construction cost is between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000. A pre-bid conference/site visit is scheduled. Estimated time of completion: 150 days from Notice To Proceed. Solicitation is web based and will be available on or about 19 March 2004. Registration will be required to download the solicitation and any amendments at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District website at http://www.nwk.usace.army.mil/co ntract/contract.html. Bids are due and will be open on 20 April 2004 at 2:00 p.m. Central Standard Time. The successful bidder will perform, in accordance with the provisions of Clauses 52.219-14, Limitations on Subcontracting, at least 15 percent of the cost of the contract, not including the cost of materials, with its own employees. A subcontracting plan is required with this submittal. This is a firm fixed price contract.
