Description
The Federal Bureau of Prisons intends to award a non-personal service contract to a qualified individual or company to perform Dental Assistant Services at the Federal Correctional Institution, Ashland, Kentucky. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to assisting staff dentist in the delivery of dental care with four-handed technique (restorations, oral surgery, periodontics, prosthetics, and examinations by preparing the dental treatment room, dental instru-ments, retracting tissue, irrigating oral cavity, operating aspirator and patient observation). De-livery of dental auxiliary operative dental procedures to include: a) Making primary impressions and pouring casts b) Basing and sub-basing restorative materials in cavity preparation; place, shape, and finish amalgam and place and polish composite restorative materials in cavity preparation c) Selecting appropriate tooth shades d) Temporary cementation of crowns/bridges e) Suture removal Provide proof of State of Kentucky dental radiology certification and at least two years experience operating dental radiographic equipment to include: a) Certification of training in Radiation Health and Safety b) Collecting, distributing and shipping of Health Service Unit staff radiation detection badges c) Taking, processing and mounting bitewing, occlusal, periapical and panoramic x-rays Clerical duties as assigned but not limited to: a) Scheduling of patient appointments, retrieving and returning patient records to Medical Records Filing, filing documents into the record according to policy b) Maintenance of daily activity log c) Preparation of requests for purchases as directed by the dentist d) Assist in the response to inmate requests e) Maintenance and revision of the Health Services Unit Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) f) Coordinating and documenting performances of Health Service Unit fire drills g) Compiling daily, monthly and quarterly dental production statistics h) Coordinating the admission dental screening process, generating required documentation relat-ing to all newly arrived inmates Assist in the maintenance and inventory of supplies and equipment; sterilization and accountabi-lity of instruments and other supplies used within the dental department. Providing credentials to verify registration and or licensure to prior to expiration of such to include: a) Certificate verifying completion of Expanded Duties Dental Auxiliary training b) Current registration with appropriate documentation of satisfactory completion of required continuing dental education credits Provide evidence of certification in Basic Life Support (CPR). Provide proof of medical liability insurance coverage with verification of the same. Provide proof of a least two years experience in a Federal Correctional setting working as a Dental Assistant. Repairing dental prosthesis and appliances and performing procedures pursuant to fabrication and repairing complete denture prosthesis and removable partial prosthesis, using acrylic resins as basic materials. Making primary impressions, pouring casts, basing and sub-basing restorative materials in cavity preparations, place, shape and finish amalgam and place composite restorative materials in cavity preparations; selecting appropriate tooth shades. Completing medical record entries, ensuring entries are legible and in the Subjective, Objective, assessment and Plan (SOAP) format. The work schedule shall not exceed 30 hours per week. The weekly schedule will normally con-sist of five (5), six (6) hour sessions per day, Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays). Usage will depend on the need of the institution. Sessions shall be scheduled between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is anticipated that this solicitation will be made available on or about March 18, 2004 and will be distributed solely through the General Services Administration Federal Business Opportunities website http://Fedbizopps.gov/. Hard copies of the solicitation will not be available. The site provides downloading instructions. All future information about this solicitation, including solicitation amendments will also be distri- buted through this site. Interested parties are responsible for monitoring this site to insure they have the most up-to-date information about the acquisition. The anticipated receipt of quotations is April 19, 2004. It is anticipated that this solicitation will result in a firm fixed price require- ments type contract. All responsible sources may submit a proposal which will be considered.
