Description
The U. S. Marine Corps has identified a requirement to replace the existing metallic armor system on the CH-46E helicopter with a lightweight substitute to reduce aircraft weight thus enabling the aircraft to carry additional combat-loaded troops without degrading the aircraft?s defensive capabilities. The CH-46E aircraft has engine protective metallic armor plates on the aft pylon and metallic armor plates around the flight control closet and is capable of protecting the aircraft from small arms fire. This new armor system must provide, at a minimum, a 35% weight reduction over the existing metallic armor system. The total weight of the existing metallic armor system is 560 pounds (308 pounds for the engine armor and 252 pounds for the flight control closet armor). The estimated quantity is for this procurement is 147 kits or other such quantities as may be authorized and appropriated by Congress. First delivery NLT Aug 2005, at a rate of 12 units per month (**larger quantities are acceptable**). The solicitation was released on 24 December 2003 with a closing date of 10 February 2004. The solicitation was issued as a 100% small business set aside. The NAICS code for this requirement is 336413, with a small business size standard of 1000 employees or less.
