Description
NASA/HQ plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for the following commercial items (brand name or equal): Quantity 19: 30" Sony model KVL-30XBR900 televisions. Since these televisions are a crucial component to providing safety information to headquarters staff as part of the Emergency Preparedness Plan, it has been determined that the use of a brand name or equal purchase description is advantageous under these circumstances. In addition to the brand name, the following includes a general description of various physical, functional, and performance characteristics of the brand name item that an "equal" item must meet to be acceptable for award. The proposed television must meet the following specifications: Screen size: 30" LCD panel (measured diagonally); Widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio; minimum 1280 X 768 pixels resolution; Progressive display (all pixels display at once); Size: Maximum of 38-1/4"W x 20-11/16:H X 3-13/16"D; Maximum weight no greater than 44Lbs. The brand name was chosen because it these HD-Ready sets have a less visible scan-line, the widest viewing angle, both horizontally and vertically, and has an auto-volume leveler feature that adjusts the sound above the ambient noise level which could be quite high in an emergency situation. Additionally, the television must have a ability to protect the screen from burns that occur when a continuous image runs. The anticipated release date of the RFQ 4200038126HBE is 12/30/03 with an anticipated quote due date of on or about 1/2/04. All responsible sources may submit a quotation which shall be considered by the agency. An ombudsman has been appointed. See NASA Specific Note "B".
