Description
NAICS Code: 5419 The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) National Homeland Security Research Center (NHSRC) is seeking the services of one student or recent graduate under the authority of 43 US Code Section 5d who is a current Ph.D. candidate with a M.S. degree, or posseses a recently completed Ph.D. degree in chemical or environmental engineering. The student would provide services under a contractual agreement to assist with the EPANET water distribution network hydraulic and water quality model to allow general multi-component chemical reaction dynamics. More specifically, the student will design and test algorithms and numerical methods using the C programming language, and design and test user interface enhancements using the Delphi programming language. The student will also identify mathematical descriptions of proposed reaction mechanisms for the case studies, to be assembled from the existing research literature. This position is full-time (40 hrs. per week), with an estimated start date of January 2004 and continuing through the end of December 2004. The principal duty station is at the NHSRC in Cincinnati, OH. The successful candidate must undergo a background and fingerprint check. The student's research and course work experience shall include advanced numerical methods development, mathematical modeling of hydraulics and water quality in drinking water distribution systems, and dynamic systems (ordinary and partial differential equations). The student shall also have course work or equivalent independent study experience in software design and programming languages, including familiarity with the use of programming/debugging environments. Compensation is commensurate with the level of education and experience as follows: $30.11/hr for students who have completed the Ph.D. degree or who are in at least the second year of a doctoral program, or $25.12/hr for students who have completed a M.S. degree and are enrolled in the first year of a doctoral program. This rate includes cost of self-employment taxes for Social Security and Medicare. Non-U.S. citizens may be eligible to participate, depending on their immigration status and the applicable regulations of the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Service (BCIS)(formerly known as the Immigration and Naturalization Service). Interested individuals may submit a request for the Job Announcement for Student Services Contract to the attention of Cathy Jo Basu, using the following methods: (1) In writing to the above address; (2) by fax (513)487-2109 ; or (3) by E-mail ( basu.cathy@epa.gov ) to Cathy Basu, referencing the Solicitation No. RFQ-OH-04-00032.
