- Description
- LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY SEEKS COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIPS TO SUPPORT NATIONAL SECURITY AND HOMELAND SECURITY MISSION PRIORITIES Announcement: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is offering expertise, capabilities, and technology to conduct collaborative research and development work with industrial partners to support National Security and Homeland Security mission priorities. The Chemical and Biological National Security Program (CBNP) at LLNL conducts research and development for biological and chemical agent detection, and radiation and nuclear detection for National Security applications. CBNP has expertise and capabilities in the areas of basic science, technology, integrated systems, as well in mitigation and remediation. For additional information about CBNP, please visit their website at http://www.llnl.gov/hso/chembioprog.html. The CBNP is now seeking industrial partners for collaborations in the development, deployment and commercialization of technology for biological and chemical agent detection, and radiation and nuclear detection. For example, one such technology is an autonomous pathogen detection system (APDS) for rapid, continuous monitoring of multiple airborne biological threat agents in the environment. The APDS is completely automated, offering aerosol sampling, in-line sample preparation fluidics, multiplex flow cytometer detection and identification assays, and orthogonal, flow-through PCR (nucleic acid) amplification and detection. The APDS has several key advantages: (1) ability to measure up to 100 different agents and controls in a single sample; (2) flexibility and ease with which new bead-based assays can be developed and integrated into the system; (3) extremely low false positive and false negative detection due to the presence of two orthogonal detection methods; (4) ability to use the same basic system components for multiple deployment architectures; and (5) relatively low cost per assay and minimal consumables. APDS is just one example of LLNL technologies available for biological and chemical agent detection. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Companies interested in working with CBNP should have specific projects and opportunities for joint research and development work to support National Security and Homeland Security mission priorities. Companies should provide a written statement of interest which includes the following: 1. Company name and address. 2. The name, address, and telephone number of a point of contact. 3. A description of corporate expertise and facilities relevant to developing and commercializing biological and chemical agent detection technology. 4. A description of specific projects and opportunities for joint research and development work with CBNP. Written responses should be directed to: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization P.O. Box 808, L-795 Livermore, CA 94551-0808 Attention: FBO 58-04. Please provide your written statement within thirty (30) days from the date this announcement is published to ensure consideration of your interest.
