- Description
- The Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Forecast Systems Laboratory (FSL), Boulder, Colorado is seeking sources for a planned acquisition during FY2004 of a high performance computer system (HPCS) to meet its research and development needs. The focus of FSL is to develop, test, and evaluate new, advanced weather forecasting techniques and technologies, and transfer these to operational service. The HPCS will be used to sustain geophysical research programs such as the Developmental Testbed Center, development and testing of National-and Global-scale observing systems, air quality modeling, ocean modeling, and climate modeling as well as parallel processing research as applied to real-time numerical weather prediction. FSL is seeking a balanced system including a Mass Storage System, network attached disks, communications interfaces, test platforms (if necessary), and the computational platform. The desired new system will replace several GNU/Linux-based clusters. The replacement system will be known as the NOAA HPCS for Research Applications (NHRA). The intent of this process is to provide an improved acquisition environment that will benefit both the vendor community and the Government. This is a sources sought synopsis. This announcement is an attempt to identify interested sources only. This is not a solicitation announcement for proposals and no contract will be awarded resulting from this synopsis. The Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this notice or to otherwise pay for information solicited.
