- Description
- NASA/JSC has a requirement for a laser marking system that will be utilized to mark metallic parts consisting primarily of Inconel and various stainless steels. The marking system is required to be furnished with a CDRH Class IV enclosure that will accomodate marking parts as long as 3 feet in length. NASA/JSC intends to purchase the items from Telesis, Pursuant to Federal Acquisition Regulations FAR 6.302-1, only one responsible source. A laser marking system is required at JSC that is identical to the Telesis Model Zenith 10F benchtop laser marking system, which is located at KSC. JSC maintains engineering, certification, logistics and configuration responsibility for the NSI and provides back-up processing capability as well as technical oversight of all matters relating to the NSI. Therefore, it is necessary to purchase equipment that is identical to the KSC laser marking system, which can be operated with detailed procedures that are identical to the KSC procedures. The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. See Note 26. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on 09/08/03. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed.
