Description

The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, intends to enter into a single source contract with Lachat Instruments, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This contract is to procure a QuikChem 8000 Series Flow Injection System for automated chemical analysis. The system must be compatible with Lachat systems being used with cooperators at other USDA-ARS locations, for data sharing and comparison. The Lachat QuikChem methods are protected under U.S. copyrights and cannot be duplicated, including the Lachat Omnion software packages being used by these cooperators. The QuikChem 8000's Shared Peripheral Analytical System (SPS) is also protected by a patent. The Government-owned Lachat equipment is only compatible with Lachat equipment, including samplers, pumps, chemistry manifolds and software, which is all currently being used by these cooperators. All chemistries must be flow injection rather than segmented flow. Additionally, peak area must be used in determining the final concentration of the ion being analyzed as opposed to peak height.
