Description
The National Library of Medicine (NLM) is conducting Market Research to ascertain the availability of limited or copy-cataloged bibliographic records for foreign language monographs in a combination of languages including German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Danish. The nature of the work includes bibliographic description, authority work subject analysis, and classification assignment. The NLM is primarily looking for companies who can provide the following services: (1) Searching for available cataloging copy in outside bibliographic sources (e.g. Online Computer Library Center, Inc. (OCLC) or the Library of Congress (LC)), applying the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules and NLM?s limited and copy-cataloging manuals and Library of Congress Rule Interpretation (LCRIs) to descriptive cataloging and creation of name and series access points; and (2) Assigning NLM Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) descriptors and NLM classification numbers or the Library of Congress classification schemes to each monograph. The NLM uses the Voyager system for the creation and editing of bibliographic and authority records. Any sources with experience in limited or copy-cataloged bibliographic records for foreign language monographs and experience in the Voyager system may respond. Companies are invited to complete and return the attached questionnaire along with comments on the proposed Statement of Work (attached). Please submit the questionnaire and any comments no later than October 3, 2003 to the following address: National Library of Medicine, 8600 Rockville Pike, Building 38A Room B1N17, Bethesda, Maryland 20894, Attn: Neha Dhir. You may also submit your responses by fax to (301) 402-0642 or by e-mail to dhirn@mail.nlm.nih.gov. The information in the questionnaire will be analyzed to determine the most suitable approach for ensuring that NLM?s mission can be fulfilled through the acquisition of the most efficient and cost effective Limited/Copy-Cataloging of Foreign Language Monograph services. The NLM may contact those companies determined to be capable of supplying these services for more information. The Government is in no way obligated to pay for the information submitted, or to reimburse companies for the cost incurred in submitting the requested information. Please contact Neha Dhir, Contract Specialist at (301) 496-6546 should you have any questions regarding this market research.
