Description
POC: Tangee Brookie, U. S. Geological Survey, P. O. Box 25046, MS-204A, Denver, CO 80225, e-mail: tbrookie@usgs.gov. The U. S. Geological Survey has a requirement for scientific drilling in Handcart Gulch, Pike National Forest, Colorado as part of a U. S. Geological Survey, Crustal Imaging and Characterization Team research project. Description of work: 1. Ream existing Webster Pass borehole 1; install rod or PVC casing to protect borehole from caving to depth needed; remove drilling shoe if present on rod or casing; allow geophysical logging time; flush; and install PVC casing (to be provided by USGS to drillers); cut casing to minimum of 6 inches below ground surface, install cap on casing. 2. Ream existing Webster Pass borehole 2; install rod or PVC casing to protect borehole from caving to depth needed; remove drilling shoe if present on rod or casing; allow geophysical logging time; flush; install PVC casing (to be provide by USGS to drillers); cut casing to minimum of 6 inches below ground surface, install cap on casing at surface. Additional information: Drill rig - Wireline core drill (H and N compatible rod sizes) setup with wheel skids or tracks (rig must not be standard truck mounted in order to navigate in the Webster Pass and Upper Handcart Gulch area). Skidder or other appropriate vehicle transport drill rig. The site location is in rugged mountainous terrain for which prior core drilling experience is needed: The access is on a shelf road with grades between 15 and 18 percent. The road requires high clearance vehicles as numerous obstacles up to 1foot high exist. The access road is in some places only 9 feet wide and has drop-off's of nearly 500 feet. The rig and transport must be able to negotiate several tight hair-pin turns with rough road. The drilling process must not leave drilling fluids, chips, or other products on site. Interested parties shall complete the Request for Quotation (RFQ) No. 03CRQQ0223 (RFQ WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL ON OR AROUND AUGUST 7, 2003) at the following website: http://ideasec.nbc.gov. Quotes are due August 15, 2003. It is anticipated the RFQ will be available ON OR AROUND AUGUST 7, 2003. This requirement is 100%set-aside for small business.
