Description
58 - The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) is interested in receiving information from the industry by conducting market research with regards to commercial applications relevant to Field Computing Devices (FCD). The Government does not intend to award a contract at the present time as a result of this Request for Information (RFI). The information received will help USSOCOM determine whether this can be pursued from industry and enter into a contract at a later date. The FCD is a portable, handheld Win2K/XP OS computer that fits into a Battle Dress Uniform/Desert Camouflage Uniform (BDU/DCU) trouser pocket and weighs not more than 5 lbs. The FCD is used by deployed tactical elements to prepare, send and receive text, voice and imagery data among other deployed elements and higher headquarters. Hardware requirements: not larger than 7? x 9?, weight less than 5 lbs, clamshell with keypad and touch screen, operator removable (no special tools required) hard disk drive, 512MB RAM, PCMCIA Type II slot, two USB2.0 ports, IEEE-1394 port, Compact Flash (CF) or Secure Digital Card slot, embedded 10/100MB Ethernet, embedded 56k modem, embedded GPS receiver, audio/video I/O, and night vision goggle and sunlight viewable display. Environmental specifications: hardened enclosure with gel molded hard drive case, splash resistant, and protected card slots and ports. Temperature specifications: -50oF to 160oF storage and transit, -20oF to 130oF operating. Power specifications: Continuous operation on internal rechargeable battery for not less than 6 hours. Battery rechargeable from: external lithium battery, 12VDC, solar panel and 110/220VAC. Innovative and/or revolutionary technical solutions are welcome.
