- Description
- The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Occupational Epidemiology Branch (OEEB), plans on entering into a sole source contract with Dartmouth-Hitchock Medical Center, Department of Pathology, 1 Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756, over a one year base period of performance and two one year options. The OEEB conducts epidemiologic research of disease etiology as it relates to occupational and environmental exposures. OEEB research is focused on bladder cancer, which is also a goal of the New England Bladder Cancer Study due to the excessive number of bladder cancer incidence and mortality cases observed in New England over the past decades. OEEB has the opportunity to conduct a genetic study of tumor tissue from cases enrolled in the study from Maine and Vermont. THe case-control study began in 2000 under contract NO2-CP-01037. Importance has been placed on confirming that the diagnostic slides indicate that each case is histologically a bladder cancer, collect additional pathology information about themorphology, grade and tumor tissue invasiveness and determine which available corresponding block from each of the diagnostic slides would be the most suitable for DNA extraction and subsequent molecular/genetic analyses. By using new methods of tissue microdisseciton, DNA and RNA can be extracted from primarily concerous tissue fixed and embedded in the paraffin block. The New England Bladder Cancer Study is an expansion of a previous bladder cancer study led by Dartmouth Medical School, data from this study in Vermont and Maine will be pooled with the Dartmouth study in New Hampshire. Dartmouth-Hitchock Medical Center is the only known source to the government that can provide the required services. This is not request for quotations. However, if any interested party believes it can provide the above service, it may submit a statment of capabilities. The statement of capabilities must contain material in sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can perform the requirement. Capability statements must be received in the contracting office by 1:30 PM EDT on July 11, 2003. The following FAR Clauses does apply, "52-217-8 Option to Extend Servcies (November 1999) and FAR Clause 52.217-9 Option to Extend the Term of the Contract (March 2000). The North American Industry Classification System Code is 541380 and the business size standard is $5M. If you have further questions please contact Cynthia Brown, Purchasing Agent (301) 402-4509.
