- Description
- The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, Coastal Systems Station, Panama City, Florida intends to issue a sole source purchase order to Scott Health and Safety (SHS) for the procurement of 130 Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Universal Charging Wands. The SCBA is a cylinder fed, open circuit respirator that supplies positive pressure breathing air to the user. The SCBA is replacing the Oxygen Breathing Apparatus (OBA), which was once used primarily by firefighters aboard surface ships and submarines. Only SHS can provide the universal charging wands for the following reasons. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has required all SCBA manufacturers to incorporate Rapid Intervention Crew/Company Universal Air Connection System (RIC) into all new SCBAs. The new RIC system?s quick disconnect is different from the existing quick disconnect, thus ca using a compatibility issue between existing and future SCBAs. SHS is the only company that has developed a hose assembly with a universal connection that will fit both existing and new SCBAs. Additionally, SHS is the only manufacturer that provides a hose assembly that does not void the NFPA and NIOSH approvals of the SCBA equipment.
