Description
Title: Laser Relay Mirror Workshop ? 22-23 July 2003 The Air Force Research Laboratory Directed Energy Directorate (AFRL/DE) and the High Energy Laser Joint Technology Office (HEL/JTO) are hosting a Laser Relay Mirror Workshop at Kirtland AFB, NM, on 22-23 July 2003. The goal of the meeting is to identify the most attractive and feasible applications of laser relay systems, to discuss architectures and Concepts of Operation/Employment/Execution for them, and to draft technology development roadmaps for these applications. A panel discussion will focus on potential multi-Service missions, using surface or airborne laser sources, and with relays mounted on ground vehicles, uninhabited air vehicles (UAVs), or airships. In addition to the panel discussion, there will be presentations on critical technologies, platform options, and current and planned relay mirror demonstrations. The second day, working groups will meet to discuss major military applications and required technologies. These working groups will give out-briefs to the entire assembly. A government-only caucus will draft a multi-Service and Agency laser relay development roadmap and identify potential Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) topics for FY04. White papers describing technologies and techniques relevant to the military use of laser relay systems, as well as potential FY04 SBIR topics, may be submitted for consideration by the relay mirror government caucus. White papers should be no longer than two pages and potential SBIR topics should follow the standard SBIR format. A more extensive white paper and/or a meeting may be requested at a later date. If you would like to participate in the Laser Relay Mirror Workshop, please contact the Workshop coordinator, Dr. Marc Hallada, Schafer Corporation, at 505-338-2853, mhallada@schaferalb.com, NLT COB on 11 July 2003. White papers and potential FY04 SBIR topics, for consideration by the government relay mirror caucus, should be submitted to Dr. Chris Washer, program advisor for the High Energy Laser Joint Technology Office (HEL/JTO), 505-338-2896, cwasher@schaferalb.com, NLT COB on 11 July 2003.
