Description
The Office on Women?s Health (OWH) through the Program Support Center, Division Acquisition Management, AOS, intends to award a fifteen (15) month sole source Simplified Acquisition to Magee Women?s Hospital, at Pittsburgh, PA, the only known source. The Contractor shall be responsible to provide an evaluation of the Impact of a Computerized Screen Tool on Preventive Care and Research Recruitment information data base implemented by Magee Women?s Hospital. The purpose of the evaluation is to provide indicators to improve quality of preventive health care and to increase recruitment of African American women into research studies and trials through the use of a computerized screening tool. This evaluation study shall focus on several questions: 1) Does acceptability of the screening tool differ between African Americans and Caucasians? 2) Does the use of the computerized tool increase enrollment in trials/research studies over prior experience? 3) Does use of the computerized screen tool increase the proportion of African American women who receive referrals/treatment for behavioral health needs (including depression, domestic violence and substance abuse)? and 4) What is the impact of the computerized screening tool on clinic procedures and patient flow? Magee Women?s Hospital is uniquely qualified to evaluate their already developed and implemented computerized tools for patient entry of information data warehouse for clinical records including radiology, laboratory, visit records, breast cancer program, and other health issues pertaining to minority women?s health. Magee-Women?s Hospital partnering with Magee-Women?s Research Institute and the Center for Minority Health at the University of Pittsburg provides a unique capability to deliver on a commitment to improving approaches for including minority populations in medical research. The results from this study will be useful for distribution to a abroad audience to both academic Centers of Excellence(COEs) and the community (CCOEs) for use in designing approaches for preventive health screening and research recruitment strategies. Anticipated award date is July 8, 2003. No solicitation will be issued.
