Description
Bechtel BWXT Idaho, LLC (BBWI), P.O. Box 1625, Idaho Falls, ID 83415-5310. LEASE OF A HEAVY HAUL TOW VEHICLE. Contact is Mr. David Macdonald. BBWI, a managing and operating contractor for the Department of Energy (DOE) at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL), is seeking an expression of interest from firms to provide a heavy haul tow vehicle for use in pulling a large cask transporter. The cask transporter is used for moving radioactive material and has a lifting capacity of 140 tons. It has 6 foam filled tires that are approximately 6 feet in diameter. The transporter itself weighs approximately 60 tons. The overall height of the transporter is 29?-9? and it is 17?-6? wide. The transporters braking system will be connected to the tow vehicles air braking system. The tow vehicle must be capable of pulling the transporter in a fully loaded state up a 5% grade. The vehicle should meet all DOT requirements for vehicles, parts, and accessories. However, if DOT requirements can't me met, identify exceptions and deviations to the regulations to support further consideration and evaluation by BBWI. It is anticipated that the tow vehicle will be needed for 8 months in the summer on 2004. The tow vehicle will be used by INEEL personnel to make 14 trips. Each trip will be approximately 25 miles one way. The maximum travel speed for each trip will be 5 miles per hour. Services to be contracted include delivery of the tow vehicle to the INEEL and necessary operator training for INEEL operators.
