Description
Bechtel BWXT Idaho, LLC (BBWI), P.O. Box 1625, Idaho Falls, ID 83415-5310. TURNKEY HEAVY HAUL SERVICES. Contact is Mr. David Macdonald. BBWI, a managing and operating contractor for the Department of Energy (DOE) at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL), is seeking an expression of interest from firms to transport six casks containing radioactive material approximately 25 miles. The casks are to be moved from one exterior concrete pad to another. Approximately 5 miles of the trip route will be made on a public highway, which will be closed to traffic during the shipments. Axle and wheel loads are subject to Idaho State and INEEL approval. If needed road infrastructure modifications can be planned by the INEEL to accommodate provided transportation equipment. The remainder of the trip route will be inside the boundaries of the INEEL. There will be two riverbed crossings along the route inside the INEEL with the route proceeding over a bridge at one location and a set of culverts at the other location. Casks will be transported vertically. The six casks are shielded metal or concrete/metal cylinders with the following approximate dimensions: Cask 1 weighs 211,960 lbs., IS 242 inches tall and has a diameter of 105 inches; Cask 2 weighs 192,650 lbs., is 192.62 inches tall and 75.02 inches in diameter; Cask 3 weights 194,510 lbs., is 198.5 inches tall and 88.5 inches in diameter; Cask 4 weighs 233,690 lbs., is 193 inches high and 94.5 inches in diameter; Cask 5 weighs 181,500 lbs., is 207.5 inches tall and 65.5 inches in diameter; and Cask 6 weighs 226,600 lbs., 185 inches tall and 88 inches in diameter. Drivers, vehicles, and equipment are to meet all DOT requirements, including new DOT security requirements, however acceptable alternates will be considered if economically desirable. Transportation operations must be coordinated with the INEEL to satisfy nuclear facility hazards safety requirements. Services to be contracted include all equipment and equipment operators needed to accomplish the loading, movement, and unloading of the six casks. Operators of the lifting equipment must have national training certification as outlined in the Candidate Handbook, National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators.
