Description
The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, National Institutes of Health, is soliciting proposals to 1) address the relationship between the presence of congenital CMV (cytomegalovirus) and long-term audiologic/otologic outcome, and 2) address the clinical validity and utility of CMV screening in the detection of permanent hearing impairment in the newborn, as well as the prediction of hearing impairment with onset during infancy or in the early years of life. The goals are to correlate CMV status at birth with the presence of permanent and/or progressive sensorineural hearing loss; to acquire information on the incidence, time course and audiologic outcomes of CMV related hearing loss; and to determine the extent to which CMV screening can improve detection and predictions of either existing or progressive hearing loss if combined with physiological metrics already in use for newborn hearing screening. A seven-year, cost-reimbursement type contract is anticipated, with award made on or about September 30, 2004. The solicitation will be issued on or about July 16, 2003, and will be posted on this Web site and at http://ocm.od.nih.gov/drc/rfp.htm. Offerors are responsible for routinely checking these Web sites for any amendments to the solicitation. Proposals will be due 120 days after the date of issuance of the solicitation. All responsible sources may submit a proposal, which will be considered by the Government. See Numbered Note 26.
