- Description
- NA NOTE: This Sources Sought notice is posted by the Program Manager, Light Armored Vehicles (PM-LAV), U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM), Warren, MI, USA. THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT INTEND TO ISSUE A SOLICITATION OR AWARD A CONTRACT ON THE BASIS OF THIS REQUEST FOR INFORMATION. THIS SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE IS FOR MARKET RESEARCH PURPOSES ONLY. Need: The USMC is considering upgrading the tire/wheel assembly for its entire fleet of Light Armored Vehicles, moving to a 16 inch x 9 inch wheel that will accommodate the Michelin 325/85R16 XML tire with a runflat insert. In lieu of a steel three-piece wheel requiring a locking ring, the USMC is interested in using an aluminum two-piece wheel, eliminating the use of a locking ring. To evaluate the feasibility of this change, PM-LAV is interested in locating potential sources capable of providing a two- piece aluminum wheel that would meet the following specifications: (a) Rim size: 16 inch x 9 inch (16 inch wheel diameter with a 9 inch bead width); (b) two-piece, not requiring use of a locking ring; (c) aluminum (weight must not exceed 35 pounds); (d) f it the Michelin 325/85R16 XML tire; (e) fit on the USMC fleet of LAVs (8 mounting lugs evenly spaced); (f) Qualified and certified In Accordance With (IAW) SAE J1992 at an operating capacity of 5,100 pounds at 62 PSI, also would require DOT/SAE certificati on AND pass further road testing by the USMC; (g) must accommodate a 9 inch VFI runflat insert for zero pressure runflat capability; (h) any contract would include mounting of GFE XML tires with runflats on the wheels. The estimated quantity is between 6,800 and 6,900 units, with a target contract award in 4th QTR FY 2003. Sources capable of providing equipment that meets the above description are invited to provide sufficiently detailed documentation/descriptive literature that clearly indicates that this requirement can be met. Sources also are requested to provide an est imated production lead time and rough order of magnitude cost estimates for the specified quantities. Electronic responses are preferred and strongly encouraged. Please email this information to Mr. Hal Porter, at porterh@tacom.army.mil). Information al so may be faxed to Mr. Porter's attention at (586) 574-5472. Any responses or product literature that cannot be emailed or faxed should be clearly marked 'USMC LAV Two-Piece Wheel Sources Sought' on the outer package, and may be sent to: Commander US Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, 6501 E. 11 Mile Road, ATTN: Mr. Hal Porter/AMSTA-PM-LAV-B/Mail Stop 501, Warren, MI 48397-5000.
