Description
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) intends to procure, on a sole source basis, with Google, Inc., the Google Search Appliance hardware and software combination. The Google Search Appliance (model GB-1001) can index up to 150,000 documents and can handle 60 queries per minute, providing adequate resources to support the search needs of cms.hhs.gov users. The Google Search Appliance is a self-contained package completely configured to support search (and no other features). Once the initial configuration of the server is complete, future administration of the server is done through a web-based interface. No special expertise on the hardware or operating system is required. Because this is a self-contained hardware, it will not affect the rest of the AT&T hosting environment. No other servers will have to be changed to support this new hardware. And, it will effectively index our website content as is, without the need to recode pages or develop standardized metadata repositories. As CMS has advanced, the technical sophistication of our websites over the past years, the traffic to our websites has significantly increased. As a result, CMS has outgrown the Google hosted search solution as a cost-effective option. Based on a market analysis and a review of competitive search services, we find that the Google Search Appliance is the only available search software-hardware combination that can effectively meet the Agency?s current business and financial need. If no written response is received within 45 calendar days from the published date of this notice, a purchase order shall be awarded to Google, Inc., 2400 Bayshore Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043. An RFQ package is not available.
