Description
NA Description: The Individual Protection Directorate, at the Soldier and Biological Chemical Command, Natick, MA is conducting a market investigation to identify suppliers and manufacturers of high performance flame resistant stretch fabrics to be used as a combat tight fitting, (e.g. spider man suit) garment. Note. This garment is worn next to the skin as the only garment. The desired candidate materials/garments must offer at a minimum the following properties: a) The textile material when used as a form fitting garment against the skin must provide long term wear comfort in multi-environmental conditions, i.e. hot/dry; hot/humid; wet/cold, etc. Provide data such as moisture vapor permeable index, clo value to de monstrate this property. b) The textile material must be flame resistant and provide flame protection when evaluated using ASTM F 1939-99a, Standard Test Method for Radiant Protective Performance of Flame Resistant Clothing Materials. Material must not propagate a flame or melt w hen in contact with heat/flame. c) The textile material must be able to wick and/or transfer moisture readily from the body as a means to provide passive cooling properties. Provide data and methodology to support this claim such as sweating guarded hot plate. d) The material must be highly durable to multiple commercial (water and solvent) laundering (greater than 50 washes). The material must be dyeable and exhibit good colorfastness to laundering, perspiration, light and weathering. e) Knits must not run/ladder. It should have excellent stretch and recovery properties initially and after prolonged wear (120 days). The material must be resistant to snagging, pilling and abrasion. f) The material must offer antimicrobial protection to a broad spectrum of both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms initially and after laundering. Ability to inhibit human foul odors in clothing items. g) Does not pose near infrared reflectance signature problem. h) Does not pose dermal and eye irritation and toxicity problem. Interested firms are requested to submit information to include technical data on their product(s) within fifteen (15) days following publication of this synopsis. Interested sources shall include information detailing firm??????s experience, personnel an d facilities. Other additional information should include, but not limit too, product cost, technical information, material safety data sheets, certification/compliance, warranty terms, relevant company background/experience, and any other information tha t the company believes demonstrates the value of their product(s) and ability to meet the requirements. Companies are also requested to submit samples for evaluation. Any information/samples submitted will not be returned and no payment will be made by t he Government for such samples.
