- NA POC: Contract Specialist Joseph West (309)782-3436 DESC: SOURCES SOUGHT, M918 Projectile Assembly, NSN: 1310-01-313-0336, Quantity: 5,000,000, Unit of Issue: Each, Part Number: 9399374. Sources sought for systems acquisition of the M918 target practice 40mm Projectile Assembly for FY04. The competitive requirement will be a 100 percent (8a) small business set aside. The systems contractor will be responsible for the manufacture and/or pro curement of all components, to include the M918 Projectile Assembly (NSN: 1310-01-313-0336), the M550 Escapement Assembly (NSN: 1390-01-245-0888) and the M55 Stab Detonator (NSN: 1376-00-277-2413). Please note the M550 Escapement Assembly (NSN: 1390-01-24 5-0888) and the M55 Stab Detonator (NSN: 1376-00-277-2413) will not be provided as Government Furnished Material. This advertisement for sources does not consitute a Request for Proposal (RFP). This advertisement is for planning purposes only. Contractors will not be compensated for their efforts (time and material). The M918 projectile cartridge is a target practice round designed to simulate the M430 cartridge in appearance and ballistics. It is fired from the 40mm Grenade Machine Gun, MK19 Mod 3. The M91 8 contains hazardous classified 1.3 and 1.4 materials that must be stored and processed in accordance with Department of Defense standard 4145.26M. The M918 requires lot testing which uses the M129 Grenade Launcher or the MK19 Grenade Machine Gun (Governme nt Furnished). The M129 Grenade Launcher and the MK19 Grenade Machine Gun are required to be in a secured building. The secured building must be constructed in accordance with DOD Standard 4145.26M as it relates to the M918. This cartridge is a fixed roun d of ammunition consisting of a one-piece steel projectile body which is fitted to a cartridge case assembly. An aluminum ogive, which contains a firing pin plate assembly, a cellular foam assembly is threaded to the projectile body. An aluminum insert, wh ich contains a flash charge chamber, is enclosed in the projectile body. A plastic container contains the flash charge chamber, which contains one gram of flash charge composition. The projectile assembly is press-fitted into a cartridge case. The M169 car tridge case is provided as Government Furnished Material for LOT testing purposes only. The M918 requires the contractor to comply with ANSI/ASCQ 9001 or Q9002 quality program and statistical process control. The M918 projectile assembly requires a 1,000-m eter and 200-meter test firing range and the range must comply with all safety and environmental regulations. Potential offerors are requested to submit a written response expressing interest. All responses will be treated as proprietary data. Following re view of this information, if the Government decides to continue this concept, a formal solicitation will be issued. At that time prospective bidders may request technical data, which will be issued via CD ROM.
