Description

The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, intends to enter into a single source contract with Buhler Inc., Minneapolis, Minnesota. This contract is to procure a Buhler MLU 202 Automatic Laboratory Mill. The Wheat Quality Laboratory currently uses a Buhler MLU 202 Mill that they have been using for approximately forty years for use in defining experimental milling properties of hard red spring wheat. It is necessary that the replacement mill be of similar structure to assure uniformity in milling trials of breeders' lines of wheat with past milling trials. The Wheat Quality Lab requires a mill as follows: Grinding capacity of 100 to 200 g/min; Three break (corrugated rolls) and three reduction (smooth rolls) passages, independent, with separate delivery of flour from each passage - mill modified for spring wheat milling; Grinding rolls to be manually engaged or disengaged; Divided sifter compartments with retractable sieve frames; Stock to be moved by pneumatic suction with simultaneous aspiration of grinding rolls; Completely enclosed milling system; Plexiglass cyclones for each grinding passage; and One motor system operates grinding rolls, adjustable feed rollers, and counterbalance in sifting mechanism.
