Description
NA Any questions regarding this solicitation should be addressed to: J. Alex Smith at j.alex.smith@usace.army.mil. The Seattle District has a requirement for Existing Outlet Tunnel, Untensioned Rock Bolt Installation and Drain Hole Clearing at Howard Hanson Dam, King County WA. Howard Hanson Dam (HHD) is located on the Green River in western Washington and is a 230-foot-high rock fill dam. The existing outlet tunnel is 900 ft long, 19 ft semi-horseshoe shaped X-section, which is concrete lined. Drain hole clearing and untensioned rock bolt installation work will be performed during a 60 day work period, approximately 15 July 2003 to 15 September 2003. All work must be completed during this 60 day window so the tunnel can be used for flood control after th is date. The contractor using conventional drilling methods shall clear fifty-one existing drain holes in the 19-foot outlet tunnel. The drain holes average ~12 1/2 ft in depth (tunnel liner is 2.5-feet & 10 feet into bedrock) and are ~3 inches in diamet er. The work includes fabrication and installation of approximately 225 untensioned rock bolts. Rock bolts vary from 18 to 25 feet in length and are both No. 9 and No. 11, Grade 75 untensioned rock bolts (threaded bar type). The Contractor shall be resp onsible for determining drilling methods, and determining hole diameter adequate to accommodate the rock bolt and other component parts of each installation (e.g., centralizers, couplers, grout tubes, etc). The rock bolts shall be installed by a firm whic h is regularly engaged in the installation of rock bolts and has at least ten years experience in the installation of similar rock bolts. The superintendent shall have installed rock bolts on at least five projects of similar scope and size. Proposed procurement will result in Firm Fix Price Construction Contract. This solicitation will be issued as an Electronic Bid Set (EBS) on the Seattle District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Web page in electronic format only. No disks will be mailed. Firms must register via the Internet at the following address: http://www.n ws.usace.army.mil/ct/ in order to receive notification of solicitation/amendment posting. The solicitation will be available for download on or about April 7, 2003.
