Description
NA The US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) in support of the TMM Program (which also includes the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, NASA and NIH/NIDDK) is soliciting novel and innovative research proposals in the area of metabolic mon itoring and diabetes measurement and control. It is anticipated that approximately $4 million will be awarded for funding of novel and innovative basic research proposals associated with metabolic monitoring. The maximum requested amount for each propos al should not exceed $300 thousand (inclusive of direct and indirect costs). In an effort to focus limited resources on filling important gaps in the area of metabolic monitoring, this year?s funding will primarily focus on, but is not limited to, the foll owing areas: novel approaches for monitoring lactate, glucose and other metabolites; development and testing of alternate monitoring techniques and approaches (including alternate site testing) of relevance to the individual with diabetes and the warfighte r; novel metabolic sampling technologies; and predictive criteria that relate to metabolism, glucose, and the availability and utilization of other energy substrates. Guidelines on proposal submission are found at http://www.usamraa.army.mil/pages/Baa_Paa/ baaproposal.htm; the main body of the proposal may not exceed 10 pages. In addition to the evaluation criteria contained in the Broad Agency Announcement (BAA 02-1), projects will be selected on the basis of scientific merit and relevance to the overall T MM Research Program. Information about other projects that have been funded under the TMM Research Program can be obtained at http://www.momrp.org/tmm.jsp. Proposals must be received at USAMRMC, ATTN: USAMRAA-BAA (Military Operational Medicine Research Pr ogram, 2003 TMM solicitation), 820 Chandler Street, Fort Detrick, Maryland 21702-5014 by 3:00 PM Eastern Time, 11 June 03 to be eligible for consideration.
