- Description
- The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) solicits proposals on an unrestricted basis to obtain information on mechanisms of carcinogen and mutagene activity to support the interpretation of the National Toxicology Program (NTP) animal toxicity results and to relate these mechanisms to the etiology of cancer, teratology, and reproductive damage. The NIEHS anticipates the examination of approximately thirty (30) chemicals per year with a contract period of performance of ten (10) years. Tasks will include 1. Induction of mutations in bacteria under different activation conditions 2. Induction of mutation at the tk locus in heterozygous mammalian cells in culture 3. Molecular analysis to identify recombination in mutants obtained in task 2 4. Induction of micronuclei in mammalian cells in culture and centromere analysis of the micronuclei 5. Examination of DNA damage of mammalian cells in culture as measured by single cell gel electrophoresis 6. Measurement of chemical-disruption of the cell cycle of mammalian cells in culture 7. Measurement of chemically induced changes in apoptosis of mammalian cells in culture 8. Work for assay development The estimated release date for the solicitation is late February. The estimated receipt date for proposals is early April. Electronic versions of the RFP will be available at http://www.niehs.nih.gov/dert/rtb/rfp.htm. All eligible responsible sources may submit a proposal which shall be considered. See note No. 26.
