Description
NA The Aviation Mission Area addresses a need for external power for aviation assets, which provides the capability to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on all aircraft systems and subsystems. The NAPS will be employed worldwide to provide electr ical direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) power, pneumatic, hydraulic power, and aircraft systems cooling support of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance for current and future rotray wing aircraft. The development and fielding of advanced ai rcraft, (such as AH-64D, CH/MH-47D/ICH, RAH-66, UH/MH-60, and the OH-58D) has exceeded the capabilities of the current Aviation Ground Power Unit (AGPU). The proposed NAPS will serve Aviation Unit Maintenance (AVUM) and Aviation Intermediate Maintenance ( AVIM) operations during wartime and peacetime. The NAPS will be capable of being loaded in CH-47 helicopters or sling loaded to the operational area and used for maintenance. It will be used on the flight line, in the field, as well as in the vicinity of the hangar to perform its mission on aircraft. The NAPS will be used wherever there are aviation assets on the battlefield or in garrison. The NAPS shall be a modular system configured for the purpose of supporting all Army rotary wing aircraft.
