- Description
- The United States Postal Service (USPS) Supply Management Information Technology Category Management Center is seeking information on potential sources of mobile data acquisition technologies, system architecture, and software applications that utilize various data capture technologies to acquire information on the movement and characteristics of the mail, including fixed barcode scanning, mobile barcode scanning, and manual keying of information. This supply management initiative requires standardization and integration among these data capture technologies nationwide to include more tracking and service measurement information for increased customer service, accountability and security. This Request for Information (RFI) describes the need for various mobile data acquisition technology in the harshest operating environments. It requests the status of existing data capture technologies along with associated industry developments and best practices that can best provide an integrated system architecture, technology standardization and design. Also requested are plans on managing and transitioning current inventory to a new system. Firms with the knowledge and expertise in large (over 100,000 users) deployments and support of mobile data acquisition technology, system architecture, and software applications are directed to go to the General Services Administration?s (GSA), Federal Business Opportunity web site, http://www.Fedbizopps.gov for more detailed information regarding Mobile Data Acquisition Technology RFI. This information will be solely distributed through the GSA website. Hard copies of the request for information will not be available. The Fedbizopps.gov site provides downloading instructions. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL (RFP). The United States Postal Service is not under any obligation to take any further steps beyond this request. All responses shall be submitted no later than February 11, 2003, at 2:00 p.m., local time, to the address specified in this announcement.
