- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has decided to include additional work at the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in the upcoming Space Mission Communications and Data Services (SMCDS) solicitation. In addition to the NASA Integrated Services Network (NISN) and NASA Information Systems Services Utility (NISSU) work, which was briefed at the industry conference on December 18, 2002, other IT related work will now be included. Specifics as to the work will be posted on the SMCDS web site ( http://www.nasa.gov/newsinfo/contracts/smcds.html ) in the near future, but it will include such items as: Digital TV, IT security, Agency-wide IT applications (such as the Site for On-line Learning and Resources (SOLAR) training package), Communications and network technology support, Agency-wide IT systems (such as the NASA Automated Data Processing Consolidation Center and the Integrated Financial Management Program), and MSFC local IT infrastructure (such as hardware maintenance, web services, AV services, and documentation repository). The SMCDS solicitation will succeed the current NASA Consolidated Space Operations Contract (CSOC), which will expire in December 2003. The Draft RFP for the SMCDS solicitation is currently scheduled for release in March 2003. Individual work package site visits are being considered during a time frame shortly after release of the Draft RFP. The final RFP is scheduled for release in April 2003.
