Description
NASA/JSC is hereby soliciting information for potential sources for delivery of a new Space Shuttle auxiliary recorder system and associated documentation. The vendor will be responsible for designing, testing, and producing flight and ground support hardware. The current system uses a Shuttle unique controller to run a 1960 designed magnetic tape recorder. Numerous obsolescence issues exist with the current system with the most pressing being the ability to buy, store and qualify magnetic tape. NASA intends to upgrade the current system with a modern design that will enhance the current system's capabilities while using less power, less cooling, taking up less space, and requiring less maintenance. The new system will be controlled via the existing discrete command interface and will provide real-time analog and discrete status. The new system will be required to record digital and analog inputs, store the inputs, and play back the stored data in its original form. The new system, which is located in the crew cabin, will run for a total of two hours during a mission. Runtime can be broken down into 15 minutes prelaunch, 45 minutes during ascent, and the final ninety minutes during entry. Post landing the data is played back to a ground data reduction facility. This data is then distributed to the engineering community for review. Data storage requirements are estimated to be in the 80-gigabyte range. Data integrity is a must and the stored data cannot be corrupted by on-orbit radiation. No solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation. If a solicitation is released it will be synopsized in FedBizOpps and on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service. It is the potential offerors responsibility to monitor these cites for the release of any solicitation or synopsis. Responses must include the following: name and address of firm, size of business; average annual revenue for past 3 years and number of employees; ownership; whether they are large, small, small disadvantaged, 8(a), HUBZone, and/or woman-owned; number of years in business; affiliate information: parent company, joint venture partners, potential teaming partners, prime contractor (if potential sub) or subcontractors (if potential prime); list of customers covering the past five years (highlight relevant work performed, contract numbers, contract type, dollar value of each procurement; and point of contact - address and phone number). Technical questions should be directed to: Ken Dwyer. Procurement related questions should be directed to: Julie Karr. The requirement is not considered to be a commercial or commercial-type product as defined in Internet "Note A". This synopsis is for information and planning purposes and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for information solicited. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation. The Government reserves the right to consider a small business or 8(a) set-aside based on responses hereto. All responses shall be submitted to Julie Karr no later than Febuary 17, 2003. In responding reference BV-01-15-03.
