- NSN: 7210-00-205-3483 TOWEL, GLASS: Shall be a cotton towel intended for drying glassware., with the following characteristics: LENGTH - 30.0 inches, finished. WIDTH - 15.0 inches, finished. PATTERN - Woven checks or woven stripes using red or blue yarns matching Cable No. 80108 (Old Glory Red) or Cable No. 80173 (Royal Blue) of the Standard Color Reference of America, 10th Edition. Copies of the Standard Color Reference of America are available from Color Association of the United States, 409 West 44th Street, New York, NY 10036. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS 1. Cloth. The towel shall be made from bleached white, plain weave, 100 percent cotton cloth with a striped or checked design woven into the cloth. The cloth shall weigh 5.0 oz per sq yd, shall have a warp yarn count of 54 yarns/inch, a filling yarn count of 38 yarns/inch, and shall have bursting strength of 50 lb in both the warp and filling directions. The stripes or checks shall be spaced at 1/2 to 1 inch intervals. Two colored yarns shall form each stripe or check line. Colored yarns shall be colorfast and shall not stain the white part of the fabric when subjected to laundering and bleaching. The cloth shall be woven from thoroughly cleaned, waste free, cotton yarns. Starch and protein content, including chloroform soluble and water soluble materials, shall not exceed 5.0 percent. 2. Construction. The finished towel shall be 30.0 inches long by 15.0 inches wide with a tolerance of + 1.0 in and -0.5 in in each direction. Each end and each side of the towel shall be hemmed with a 1/4 to 3/8 inch wide hem. A fast selvage may serve as a side hem. All hem widths shall be uniform, with the cut edge folded to the inside of the hem. Hems shall be stitched with 10 to 12 stitches per inch using cotton or polyester/cotton thread of a type and size appropriate for sewing the toweling fabric and durable to repeated laundering. 2.3 Labeling. Each towel shall have a permanent label marked with the following information: a) Towel size. b) Fiber content in accordance with the Rules and Regulations under the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act. c) Care instructions. d) Manufacturer?s name or trademark. The label shall be sewn into one hem near a corner. All information required on the label shall be completely visible after the label is sewn in. The marking shall be well defined and clearly legible. The label material and the marking shall be durable to the care method appropriate for the towel. Copies of Rules and Regulations under the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act are available from the Federal Trade Commission, Washington, DC 20580. Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this item purchase description, conform to the producer's own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. UNIT PACKAGE: The unit package shall be twelve (12) towels. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY: The item(s) shall be packaged and packed in accordance with the latest revision of ASTM D 3951, Standard Practice for Commercial Packaging. Shipments to the Department of Defense (DOD) shall be marked in accordance with MIL-STD-129. PALLETIZATION: The shipping containers shall be palletized. The pallets shall be 48-inch length x 40-inch width, general purpose, four-way entry, flush stringer, double face non-reversible pallets. The palletized load shall not exceed 2500 pounds in weight. The palletized load shall not overhang the pallet and shall not exceed 53 inches in overall height. Less than half pallet loads or loads shipped by small package carrier need not be palletized. NOTICE: All lumber used inside or outside a shipment shall be BARK FREE. UNITIZATION OF PALLET LOAD: The palletized load shall be unitized and secured to the pallet to insure that the load arrives intact. NOTICE OF SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SHIPMENT TO EUROPEAN UNION COUNTRIES: Per Clause D-FSS-468, non-manufactured wood pallets and other non-manufactured wood package material used in shipments destined for ultimate delivery to or through a European Union (EU) country shall comply with the Emergency Measures (2001/219/EC) adopted by the Commission of the European Communities (CEC). Additionally, shipments delivered to DoD distribution facilities or freight consolidation points for eventual delivery to or through EU countries shall comply with DLA PROCLTR 01-15.
