- Description
- Three trawl vessels needed to be chartered by NOAA for groundfish assessment surveys in the Gulf of Alaska in 2003 with options for performance in 2004, 2005, and 2006. Multiple contracts are anticipated. All three vessels are to perform in the Gulf of Alaska in 2003, and one of the three vessels to perform the Bering Sea continental slope survey in the even numbered option years. All vessels must have a minimum registered length of 120 ft. Two vessel must have a minimum continuous horsepower from the main engine of 1,000, and one vessel must have continuous horsepower from the main engine of 1,300. Vessels must be able to tow standard survey trawl, maintain a minimum cruising speed of at least 16.8 km/hr (9 nm/hr) in low sea states, and have fuel capacity for approximately 50 days of continuous fishing operations. Vessels must be completely rigged for trawling including a stern ramp and gallows or gantry, two net reels, split trawl winches, an auto-trawl system, and have trawl cable leading directly from winches to the gallows trawl blocks. The government will provide trawls, trawl doors, and rigging. Vessels must have at least 600 sq ft of clear deck area for sampling equipment, a protected area on deck or covered area aft of the house, electric power outlet on deck, dry storage areas, at least two deck bins, crane capable of lifting 5 mt, office area, freezer storage, adequate fresh water for 4-weeks, accommodations for crew and a 5 or 6-person scientific party. The minimum crew shall consist of Captain, lead-fisher, engineer-fisher, second fisher, and cook-fisher. Performance period for the Gulf of Alaska begins in Dutch Harbor on or about May 18, 2003 and continues for 75 days with 5 additional option days, ending in Ketchikan or Kodiak. Alternate performance periods may be offered. All responsible, responsive offers will be considered.
