- Description
- NASA/MSFC is hereby soliciting information for potential sources for a 26-month development and qualification effort to develop an alternate source for the Space Shuttle Booster Separation Motors. The effort to accomplish this objective consists of tasks in the design, fabrication, and testing of small solid rocket motors. The booster separation motor is a small solid rocket motor, approximately 12.9 inches (diameter) by 34.6 inches (length). A qualification test series is essential to complete the alternate-source development effort. The overall effort will culminate with a qualified booster separation motor design for potential incorporation into the Space Shuttle Program. Qualified sources possessing technical and program management skills, knowledge and experience in design, fabrication, and testing of small scale ballistic motors on current space transportation systems are sought to develop and qualify booster separation motors. Prospective offerors shall demonstrate expertise in the following essential areas: 1. Fundamental knowledge of solid rocket propellant chemistry and grain design 2. Experience in the design, fabrication, and testing of solid rocket motors on existing space transportation systems is considered essential 3. Experience in ballistic and structural analysis of solid rocket motors 4. Demonstrated experience in contamination control of solid rocket motors No solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation. If a solicitation is released it will be synopsized in FedBizOpps and on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service. It is the potential offerors responsibility to monitor these cites for the release of any solicitation or synopsis. United Technologies Corporation, its divisions and subsidiaries, are excluded from participating in this requirement to develop an alternate source. Other interested offerors/vendors having the required specialized capabilities to meet the above requirement should submit a capability statement of five (5) pages or less indicating the ability to perform all aspects of the effort described herein.?See Numbered Note 25?. Technical questions should be directed to: Daryl Woods at (256) 544-2284. Procurement related questions should be directed to: Monica Williams at (256) 544-5053. This synopsis is for information and planning purposes and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for information solicited. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation. Respondents deemed fully qualified will be considered in any resultant solicitation for the requirement. All responses shall be submitted to Monica Williams, ATTN: PS42, at the address listed above no later than December 4, 2002. In responding reference PS42-BSM-1.
