- Description
- This is a SOURCES SOUGHT SYNOPSIS for market research purposes. The National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) is seeking SMALL BUSINESSES ONLY, (Size standard is 500 or less employees), with expertise in the areas of ultrahigh vacuum (less than 10-9 Torr); grazing-incidence optical systems; thermal stability; vibration isolation; and precision mechanical design. Interested offerors shall submit capability statements to demonstrate experience and expertise in the aforementioned areas and perform the work described herein.***The NIST, Photon Physics Group, is in the process of upgrading a beamline monochromator that currently resides on the Synchrotron Ultraviolet Radiation Source (SURF III) storage ring.***As part of this project, NIST will be replacing the support structure, the mechanical structure, and the vacuum envelope of an extreme ultraviolet (4 nm - 40 nm wavelength) monochromator with the goal of achieving 0.005% reproducibility in wavelength near 13 nm. The optical components are a toroidal mirror operating at 3 degrees grazing, two plane VLS gratings, and a linearly scanned mirror for wavelength selection.***A description of the design of the present instrument, which will be the basis for the upgraded instrument, can be found in: Nuclear Instruments and Methods, A319, 128-134 (1992).***The gratings are to be on a rotating stage that must have a reproducible positional accuracy of 1 microradian controlled by computer. The gratings are to be interchangeable under vacuum. Each of the optical components, i.e. the toroidal mirror, the gratings, and the scanning mirror are to maintain precise alignment to within 1 microradian under a 2-degree Centigrade change in the environment and regardless of whether or not the system is under vacuum.***Work will include design of a monochromator that will fit into the existing space, and can achieve the mechanical and thermal stability NIST requires, switch between the two gratings, tweak components while under vacuum, and achieve UHV conditions. The final chamber must fit within the currently existing beamline.***Information on the Contractor's experience and expertise must be sent to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Acquisition and Logistics Division, Attn: Carol A. Wood, Contract Specialist, 100 Bureau Drive, Mail Stop 3571, Gaithersburg, MD 20899-3571. Submission must be received by 3:00 p.m. local time on November 27, 2002. Original submissions are preferred.
