Description
NA This announcement is open to nonprofit organizations and small businesses. The Army Research Office announces the availability of a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for technical and management services for the DoD Uninitiates' Introduction to Engineering (UNITE) Program. The award will be for the continuation of services for the coordination, administration and evaluation of the UNITE Program. The UNITE Program is a college preparation program designed for high school students to attend classes during th e summer months. The services sought will enhance the infrastructure for science and engineering research. The Program is composed of five universities and each university (University of Delaware, Newark, DE; New Mexico MESA Tech, Albuquerque, NM; Florid a International University, Miami, FL; University of Detroit, Detroit, MI; with the fifth (new site) to be determined for FY 03) operates an educational program that encourages and assists socially and economically disadvantaged high school students by pre paring them to enter and graduate from colleges and universities. Each university program is designed for students living within the general local area. Each university identifies academically talented high school students who show an aptitude for math a nd science subjects. By attending college structured classes during the summer months, these students are introduced to ways that math and science are applied to real world situations and how math and science are related to careers in engineering and tech nology. Each university receives an equal amount of funds annually to support the students. The award is anticipated to be a five year grant in the approximate amount of $200,000 annually. The BAA contains additional information along with instructions for proposal preparation and submission. The BAA may be viewed or downloaded via the internet at http://www.aro.army.mil on or about 13 November 2002. The BAA will only be available via the internet.
