- During the FY03 time frame, the office of the Product Manager, Crew Served Weapons at the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command, Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (TACOM-ARDEC), Picatinny Arsenal, NJ may release an acquisition for the manufacture and delivery of approximately 5.8 million rounds of M973/M974 Short Range Training Ammunition (SRTA). Both of these cartridges provide a realistic restricted range training alternative to M80/M62 service ammunition. The 7.62mm SRTA/SRTA-T training ammunition is intended for use in the M60 and M240B. The ammunition has a maximum range of 600 meters; ballistic match of the M80/M62 out to 100 meters and it contains lead-free components, which allows for a clean training environment. Performance requirements will be in accordance with MIL-PRF-71167B (AR) Cartridge, 7.62mm, M973 Ball SRTA, Revision B, dated 21 August 2002 and MIL-PRF- 71168B (AR) Cartridge, 7.62mm, M974 Tracer SRTA, Revision B, dated 21 August 2002. Both Performance Specifications will be available on ProcNet, http://procnet.pica.army.mil, for download. This Synopsized request is for informational and planning purposes only and should not be construed as a request for proposal (RFP). Request any responsible prospective offerors submit their literature / brochure no greater than 25 pages no later than November 27, 2002. Any and all information shall be mailed to Dept. of the Army, U.S. Army, TACOM-ARDEC, AMSTA-AQ-APD, Attention: Anna Yim, Bldg. 10, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey 07806-5000. This is only a Market Survey, not a pre-solicitation notice. If a formal solicitation is generated at a later date, a solicitation notice will be published. All information is to be submitted at no cost or obligation to Government. The Government reserves the right to reject, in whole or in part, any private sector input as a result of this market survey. Respondents must demonstrate a capability for high rate production and delivery of these cartridges. Historically, these cartridges have been purchased on a sole source basis from SNC TEC, Canada based on the fact that they are the only firm with a qualified round. Other sources that would be interested in submitting a proposal will be responsible to qualify at their own expense in order to be considered for award. See Note 25.
