Description
The National Data Buoy Center (NDBC), Stennis Space Center, Mississippi is conducting a market survey to locate viable boat yards interested in sandblasting and painting National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) buoys. These boat yards will be solicited for pricing information to establish a baseline of current market rates for sandblasting and painting 3-, 6-, 10- and 12-meter buoys in the local area. Due to the need to transport the buoys to and from the boat yards, it is preferred that the boat yard be within 100 to 150 miles of Stennis Space Center, Mississippi. The 3- and 6-meter buoys are truckable while the 10- and 12-meter buoys must be towed to the yard. The 3-meter buoys are all aluminum discus buoys with a diameter of 10 feet and weighing 2,900 lbs. The 6-meter buoys are all aluminum boat shaped buoys. Each 6-meter buoy is 20 feet by 8 feet by 8 feet and weighs 8,700 lbs. The 10-meter buoys are steel with aluminum superstructure discus buoys 33 feet in diameter and weigh 57,000 lbs without blast. The 12-meter buoys are steel with aluminum superstructure discus buoys 40 feet in diameter and weigh 104,000 lbs without blast. Both the 10 and 12-meter buoys must be deblasted prior to lifting. NDBC will provide specifications and drawings to interested parties upon request. Requesters will be asked to provide quotations on the information package provided. The quotations will be used to establish a market rate for the sandblasting and painting work. The Government gives preference to small businesses. All requests must be in writing sent by e-mail, mail, or fax. Phone requests will not be honored. Address requests to Penny S. Parker, National Data Buoy Center, Building 1100, Stennis Space Center, MS 39529-6000. Fax number is (228) 688-3153. E-mail address is Penny.Parker@noaa.gov.
